An RMEV or Regular Member Entitled to Vote is a
qualified member of OMSMPC who:
- Attended the previous General Assembly,
- Completed all membership requirements from the previous year,
and
- Earned at least 70 points based on the cooperative’s set
criteria.
The purpose of determining Regular Members Entitled to
Vote (RMEV) is to uphold a fair, transparent, and accountable democratic
process within the cooperative. It ensures that voting rights are granted only
to members who:
- Actively participate in OMSMPC programs,
- Patronize cooperative services and businesses,
- Meet the required financial and membership criteria.
This process promotes meaningful engagement,
responsible membership, and reinforces the cooperative principle of member
control.
Becoming an RMEV gives you more than just a title - it
empowers your voice in shaping the cooperative’s future. Here’s what you get:
- Voting Rights: Participate in electing Board Members and
Committee Officers during the General Assembly.
- Eligibility to Run for Office: You can file your candidacy
for positions such as the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, or Election Committee.
- Empowered Participation: Help decide on policies, plans, and
major cooperative decisions.
- Recognition: Be acknowledged as an engaged and
high-performing member in good standing.
- Priority to Coop Programs and Events: Prioritized in
receiving event invitations, special benefits, giveaways (e.g., gift baskets),
and slots for training, loans, and other coop-led initiatives.
Members actively participate in setting policies and
making decisions. But this right is earned, not automatic, it must be backed
by:
- Financial responsibility (e.g., share capital payments)
- Active engagement (e.g., GA attendance and program
participation)
- Economic support (e.g., patronizing coop businesses)
- Good standing
Thus, the RMEV system ensures that the most engaged,
supportive, and committed members are the ones empowered to shape the
cooperative’s leadership and future.
RMEV
status is granted to members who meet the cooperative’s four-point criteria
covering capital, participation, and patronage.
