E-commerce (electronic commerce) is fast becoming a livelihood source for many Filipinos as more consumers use their digital devices to shop online. The Department of Trade and Industry considers e-commerce as a major growth driver of the Philippine economy by year 2025, with internet users now comprising more than half of the 100M+ population.
Online shopping platforms offer an efficient way for businesses to sell their products to a wider audience without the inconveniences and costs of maintaining an actual physical store. While many first-time entrepreneurs are interested in exploring e-commerce, they are unable and easily discouraged due to inadequate understanding of the process and the additional business document requirements which can be time-consuming and too costly for a small seller.
In 2017, the Cooperative was established to bridge the gap between the e-commerce platforms and the local micro sellers so that these beginner sellers can focus on manufacturing and selling their products while the Cooperative participates on their behalf by working with the e-commerce platforms to display, promote, and market the products for the general public to patronize. At the same time, the member sellers can benefit from education and training that the Cooperative will provide to help develop their capabilities in entrepreneurship, marketing, technology, and other business skills.
